This was my submission for my final project in my Compositing class. Our assignment was to take footage of a carnival and add elements that would induce large amounts of adrenaline and cause the rider to re-think his or her life choices. I chose to combine the traditional Tilt-A-Whirl with a wrecking ball.
I modeled, lit, textured and animated the wrecking ball in Maya. In my own free time I actually went to the amusement park where our teacher recorded the original plate and captured some HDRI images to replicate the lighting for my asset. We were required to stabilize the plate in Nuke. I had to export a camera from Nuke to Maya to position the asset properly. Once in Nuke, I had to roto everything that is closer to camera than the wrecking ball. This includes all the rotating ride vehicles and the ride operator. I also adjusted grain, blur and color to match the scene. Finally, we were required to add an effect. I added sparks and dust whenever the wrecking ball nicks the vehicles.
